Nora's Quest 7: Pumpkin Spice

It was early, the sun was out and the Chimera had all been tended to!

That meant it was my time... and I wanted to spend it doing one of the few things I enjoyed doing! 

“Ground cinnamon, ground ginger, allspice…and nutmeg. We have everything!” I was practically dancing on my feet - it had been so long since I'd been able to work with these things! 
 
“Everything for what?” Aibu asked as she stood curiously overlooking the items listed sitting on the counter dividing the kitchen from the dining area. All was neat and tidy. I kept a clean kitchen and only sentient beings were allowed within. The spices I'd spoken of were only a few amongst quite a few others. As Aibu made to pick up a whisk, her eyes alight with the shining metal, I quickly changed her mind and forced her to withdrew her clawed-hand by threatening to whack it with my mixing spoon!
 
Sitting on a stool, the Aquatic Kodryma glowered at me as she raped her claws on the glossy slate instead.
 
“You’ll see!” I gushed, happiest when I was making something that I knew wouldn’t blow up in my face.
 
I mixed all the ingredients together quickly before shoving the bowl under her nose—she reared back with a scowl.
 
“Wa-La!” I exclaimed, “Pumpkin spice!”
 
She blinked at it, her tail flicking slightly on the floor. “Smells nice. Do I eat it?”
 
I quickly withdrew the bowl at her sharp-toothed smile. “Not yet.”
 
I turned back to my various other items then, an excited gleam in my eyes, “I’m going to show you how to make a pumpkin pie and a pumpkin spice latte with this!”
 
And I did!
 
She seemed to enjoy working in the kitchen, but was disgusted by the latte when she sipped it, “YUCK!”
 
“Maybe you’ll enjoy the pie more.” I laughed, giggling at her disgusted look.
 
Iru loved the latte—and both thoroughly enjoyed the pumpkin pie!
 
“Pumpkin spice is one of my favorite food items for this season!” I stated as I finally finished cleaning my mess up in the kitchen and hunkered down to eat my pie and drink my own latte over a good book.
 
“Mine too.” Iru murmured around his final mouthful of pie.
 
“They need to develop a pineapple spice. Maybe I’d like that one.” Aibu replied as she made her way towards the bathroom for her customary two hour long bubble-bath soak. “…Thanks for teaching me about pumpkin spice, though.”
 
I nearly choked on my pie—had my ears deceived me, or had the human-hating Kodryman actually thanked me? From the serene look on Iru’s face, I couldn’t be sure…she’d mumbled it under her breath…but I thought I’d heard right!
 
I smiled over my pumpkin spice latte, mentally giving my pumpkin spice the thumbs up on connecting families everywhere.
